A documentary about the people and progress of the Sahara Forest Project is in the making. The film is named “Green Deserts – The Saltwater Revolution”.
The documentary on the Sahara Forest Project is directed by Per Lebeck and produced by Copenhagen Film Company, a Danish based production company. Per Liebeck has been following the Sahara Forest Project for more than a year, witnessing the building of a pilot facility in Qatar, the presentation at the UN Climate Negotiations in Doha and the preparations for further development.
“So far, we have numerous hours of footage of the work and processes taking place in the desert. We have been documenting the obstacles of bureaucracy, technology, and many other aspects of the Sahara Forest Project, as well as following the personal journey of our group of scientists, engineers and environmentalists”, says Per Liebeck, the director of the film.
The goal of the film is to step into the lives of engineers, scientists and environmentalists working at the Sahara Forest Project.
Is it even possible to turn the desert green and grow food in the driest regions of the world? Can you turn seawater into fresh water while at the same time create renewable energy by means of the sun? And will it be possible to get this project to market and into society so that the whole world might benefit from this technology?
To answer these questions the film crew plan to keep on documenting the Sahara Forest Project for at least another year.
In order to raise money for an additional year of filming, the documentary project has launched at Kickstarter, a crowd funding platform for creative projects.
The documentary “Green Deserts – The Saltwater Revolution” is independently produced by Copenhagen Film Company.
Copenhagen Film Company produced Sahara Forest Project’s film “From vision to reality”, launched at UN Climate Negotiations in Qatar in November 2012.
About Sahara Forest Project
The Sahara Forest Project is a new environmental solution to produce food, water and energy in desert areas. It is designed to utilize what we have enough of to produce what we need more of, using deserts, saltwater and CO2 to produce food, water and clean energy-
