FRESHWATER SHORTAGE

Today, 1.2 billion people live in areas with physical water scarcity (1).

An increasing world population will require more water. By 2025, 1.8 billion people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity, and two-thirds of the world population could be approaching water
scarcity (1).

The challenge will be to sustainably produce enough freshwater for production of future food and biomass.
